Houston Uptown

Listed as operating as the Uptown Theatre from its opening on November 9, 1935 with Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers in “Top Hat”. It operated through into the 1950’s. It was re-named Rivoli Theatre on December 25, 1959 screening Yul Brynner in “Solomon and Sheba”. It was closed in 1962 and was demolished three years later.

The Uptown opened on November 9, 1935. It was a Will Horwitz theater. H. Koetter, of Koetter & Arbing, Inc., was the architect. The premier feature was “Top Hat” with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
