The Regal Theatre was opened September 15, 1928 with Margarita Fischer in “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”. It was equipped with an Austin 3 manuals 8 ranks pipe organ. By 1933 it was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. Listed in the 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook with a seating capacity given as 946. This theatre was located in central Hartford a couple of doors away from the Princess Theatre. The Regal Theatre was still open in December 1949. It was demolished in 1952.

Two photos with the Regal in the foreground and the Princess in the background can be found on page 25 of the “Images in America” book Hartford, Volume I. You can see the marquee displays on the Regal. The Verdict and Child of Divorce in one (both 1946), Tomorrow the World (1944)and Song of the Sarong (1945) on the other. On the Princess program in the photo 1946 was The Dark Corner.

In early 1948 the Regal showed the Italian films Shoe Shine and To Live in Peace, not typical of their policy.
The newly built Regal opened on September 15th 1928. At the time, it was reported to be the first Hartford cinema equipped for both Movietone and Vitaphone. The feature, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” was in Movietone, but supporting vaudeville shorts were in Vitaphone. The Regal also had an Austin pipe organ.
The Regal Theatre was demolished in 1952.
