The Mini One opened in October 1969, by Carrol’s Development Corporation. It was their prototype for a manager operated fully automated theater. The booth ran 6000' reels with an automatic changeover. The small lobby held the box office and small candy stand. The auditorium had a large screen, and the wide house’s seats were arranged in continental style.
The name was changed by the 1980’s to the Cinema East 2, because it was next door to the original Cinema East. In its last few years, the theater was used as an art house by Loews. It closed on September 28, 1991 with Susan Sarandon in “Thelma and Louise”. The Cinema East next door also closed on the same date.

The company built a very similar cinema in Oswego, same color scheme and layout – but a little bigger, the booth/lobby wall wasn’t curved like the Mini 1, and the Oswego Cinema had no screen curtain.
The Mini One was originally equipped for 16mm. They had two projectors and two prints. While one print was running the other was being rewound by the projector running in reverse. I stopped in and saw the operation. They were running “the Chairman” with Gregory Peck. That was in 1969. After a couple of years they replaced the 16’s with Cinemeccanica V4’s. Until it closed the house always had a union manager projectionist.
