The website link has been hijacked. The theater’s Facebook page says a soft reopening is scheduled for July 10.
Motion Picture Exhibitor, July 20, 1966: “(J. S. Worley’s) remodeling of the Texas has been completed and the reopening held on July 1, followed by an open house on July 3 and the formal opening on Independence Day.”
One of only 16 open “Texas” theaters of the 81 on Cinema Treasures.
This theatre was damaged by a fire on April 1, 1956. The theatre was rebuilt and opened again on August 30, 1956.
This one actually opened on August 22, 1940. The architect was J. C. Beery of Amarillo. The feature film was “Andy Hardy Meets Debutante”.
The Texas Theater in Shamrock, Texas, is a one-screen theater with 315 seats. It operates on weekends and the web site for it is: texastheater.info. The building was originally constructed in 1930 for $30,000. The grand opening was held late August 1930.
The Texas is now open only Friday through Sunday. Admission is $5.00 and real butter tops the popcorn. The Sunday night I attended
there were about 20 moviegoers. The Texas does not have a balcony.

The Conoco station is also featured in the animated film “Cars”.

Nothing to do with either theatre, but if your ever on Interstate 40 going by Shamrock by all means get off and see the beautifully restored CONOCO Gas Station and Diner (now the Chamber of Comerce) restored to all it’s Art Deco glory. It’s located south of the Interstate at the Northeast corner of N Main St/Route 83 and Old Route 66/E 12th St/Tx 556 Spur. Looks great at night too with all the restored neon lite! The only other theatre in Shamrock, TX listed in Film Daily Yearbook’s 1941 – 1950 is the Liberty Theater, with a seating capacity of 682. No other details are given.
