Town Hall Theatre

A Victorian venue dating from 1892, probably not constructed as a theatre but with an ecclesiastical (church) use. It is owned by the local Council and was fully refurbished in 1993-1994 when it was stylishly converted to a 405 seat multi-purpose entertainment hall. Seats in the main bank are on retractable bleachers whilst in the square balcony which runs around three sides of the auditorium, seats are stepped and fixed.

Slender columns support the balcony and continue up to the barrel vaulted, segmented ceiling.

The venue is equipped with film equipment, but the opening of a multi-screen cinema in the town has somewhat reduced demand. There is also a 3 manual, 24 stop, J J Binns organ situated at the rear of the stage which was installed in 1926.
