Palace Cinema

The Palace Cinema opened in 1912 and closed in mid-1930 - either as a result of the introduction of Sound, or it closed due to competition after the nearby Hippodrome had opened in 1928.

It has now been split with a gas fire showroom occupying the foyer and circle and Collingwoods Auction Room occupying the rest of the auditorium. It is little altered inside or out, and still retains the balcony front and screen surround some 80 years after screening its last (silent) film.

The above text should read “closed prior to 1930” (not in mid 1930).

Also the entrance is in the road which is the other side of the block from Darthill Road. I think, enlarging the google map that it is called Robin Goodfellows Lane. It is a very minor road!
