Oregon Theatre

The Oregon Theatre was opened by 1927 and was still open in 1957. In later years it went over to adult pornographic movies as the Oregon Theater and closed in March 2020.

The photo above was taken after the marquee and veritcal had been removed. This neighorhood theatre served as a moveover house for the Aladdin theatre in the late sixties and early seventies, runing foreign and art films. It went the porn route about the same time as the other theaters in the Aladdin group.

I went in to see if this was a real theater, since I didn’t believe that such a unassuming building could house one. The nice (if a bit too nice) employee let me look around.

In the lobby they have shelves aginst the walls full of DVD porn. At the concessions you can buy condoms, sheets, or ice cream.

It still has one large screen. Most of the seats have been removed and replaced with a variety of thrift store sofas and love seats. They were playing lame porn, no plot at all. There was maybe 2 people there (but it was around 12am).

From what I saw this theater could still be brought back. It’s small and cozy and would be a great adittion to that area. I even like the couch idea, but maybe with NEW couches.

I live a few blocks from this theater. It’s real depressing from the outside. It’s a shame they took down the neon. This is actually a good area now, so porn’s days ought to be numbered.

There is a photo if Division street taken I believe in the 20’s that includes the marquee. Valentino was the show. I think the Oregon Historical Society has a copy, I couldn’t find it online.
