Located in the Flamengo district of Rio. The interior was modeled on the Radio City Music Hall in New York and the Cine Sao Luiz was designed by architect Jaime Fonseca Rodrigues. It was opened in 1937 and had 2,002-seats, located in orchestra, mezzanine and balcony. It was parially demolished in 1990 when the magnificent foyer on Rua do Catete was taken down to accomodate a works entrance to a new metro station. Entrance to the cinema was via a small door on Rue Machado de Assis. A few years later the cinema was closed and the auditorium was demolished.
A shopping centre was built on the site and on its 4th floor there is now a 4-screen Cine Sao Luiz. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
