The Nam Yang Theatre was situated in the Wanchai district on the Hong Kong Island.
Nam Yang, meaning “South East Asia”, was the Mandarin pronunciation of its Chinese name.
It opened to business on 1st April 1966 with a Mandarin language film, and it showed first run Chinese dialect and selected English language films until its closure on 1st January 1989.
The auditorium and its spacious lobby were on the ground floor of the theatre building.
A hotel with two mini cinemas was built on the site of the theatre.

I think Nam Yang means “South Ocean”. It has long been paired up with South China in Mong Kok showing films from Mainland China.
I should also point out that “Nam Yang” also refer to the countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, where large Chinese communities are found.
