The Oaks 6 Cinema was opened on May 26, 1978. It was closed on January 7, 2001.

There was an AMC theater inside the mall, but this theater was a separate berm, nestled in with a few other shops (and a Toys R Us) next door to the mall.
Our UF Sci-Fi club did a lobby display for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade there.
The six was in the mall. The 4 was next door and is listed on this site as the Gator Cinemas.
Scottneff is correct. The Oaks 6 was inside the mall, and was torn out and replaced with shops and a new food court. The Oaks 4 is the separate one to the immediate north of the Mall (behind the Starbucks/Perkins) and has gone up and down. It is currently open as Gator Cinemas, and more info, including a link to current shows via their Facebook page, can be found there.
It offers second-run movies for $2 (Tuesdays, $1). It’s a good deal for those movies you didn’t think worth spending $10 bucks plus more for the popcorn and drinks. Now you can spend 10 bucks (12 for a couple) and get the popcorn and drinks too.

Oaks 6 had a habit of playing adult films during the AMC Midnite Movie Express heyday of the early to mid-80’s. Unsure if these were soft or hard versions. Curious to know if they were XXX cuts. Hardcore at the mall? Only in the 80’s.

Here’s some additional info from an old Gainesville Sun…this theater opened sometime in 1978 with Coma being the first movie shown, and it closed on January 7th of 2001 with their very last movie ever being Dracula 2000.
