This opened with 10 screens in May of 1990 by Litchfield Theatres and taken over by Regal Cinemas, which added four more screens in 1995.

Litchfield Cinemas was one of the best theatre chains that I had worked at as head of projection booth before it first opened and there after for over 2 years. The owner (McKisset or McKisett) only bought the best NEW equipment. He talked to you like a real human being.

It cost about 1 million to put the building on the ground and in the first year it made more than enough to cover all expenses. It made so much money in one day that we had to hire the alachua county sheriff dept. to make 3 runs to the bank to drop deposits.

Not sure if anyone will find this interesting, but the two trash receptacles near this theater’s box office still have the old school Regal Cinemas logo. Almost makes me wonder if it can also be found elsewhere at this location.

By the by, I was looking at some more old issues of The Gainesville Sun and found out that this theater’s last day under the Litchfield banner was June 23rd of 1994. In addition, Renaissance Man was the last movie they showed before making the changeover to Regal.

So according to Gainesville.com, sometime in the near future, this will become more of a “luxury theater” by taking out about half of the seats. Not totally sure how that’s going to work, but alright.
