Wichita, KS, based Syndicated Vaudeville Theatres opened their Bijou Airdome on May 13, 1906, strictly as a warm weather, outdoor theatre. Located on Sheridan Avenue near Harvey Street, this theatre most certainly had to have been a rooftop operation as period photographs and vintage postcard views show this business district area had shoulder to shoulder buidlings with absolutely no vacant lots.
Newspaper ads promoted the Bijou Airdome as primarily a two a day vaudeville house that promised five big acts and a live band, with after dark motion pictures.
The Bijou Airdome operated during the summer months of 1906, then completely shut down never to reopen. This would indicate that it too must have gone bankrupt along with its sister house over on Main Street near Broadway.
