The Avon Lake Theatre opened on Thursday, April 21, 1949, according to an article in the April 30 issue of Boxoffice. The 1,200 seat house was designed by Cleveland architect W.S. Ferguson. It was originally operated by Meyer Fine’s Associated Theatres circuit.

A two-page article with photos of the Avon Lake ran in Boxoffice of September 3, 1949.

I saw “Star Wars” there when it premiered in ‘77; my friends and I couldn’t get tickets to the Pink Floyd concert, so we decided to see this movie I’d read about in “Starlog”.

I’m sorry to hear that it’s closed.

I went there to see the first two Star Wars films in 1980 when Ep.4 was re-released and Ep.5 just came out. The last movie I can remember going to see there was Wayne’s World. I hate to see the small theaters go. Avon Lake was a good one to go to. Also if anyone from the area remembers Ridgeview Cinema in North Ridgeville and have pics or ads from when it was in use let me know on the entry I made for it.
