The Earl Theater, New Oxford, PA

This photo was taken in the early 1940’s. The man out front is Rex Gilbert who ran the projecters at the Earl for many years. He was married to Helen Higinbotham Gilbert, sister of Frank and Richard Higinbotham. He entered the military and was a Staff Sergeant. He had a hand in making “Wings Up,” a 20-minute black and white film, starring Capt. Clark Gable, Gilbert Roland, Robert Preston, William Holden, and Brenda Marshall, produced by the Office of War Information. The film was partially shot at USAAF Office Candidate School in Miami, FL. The film, first released on May 27, 1943, may still be seen in its entirety by clicking on this link: https://archive.org/details/WingsUp1943
