The Butterfield Theatres chain opened the Plaza Cinema’s doors on September 19, 1975 with “The Wind And The Lion” in Screen 1 and “Once Is Not Enough” in Screen 2, featuring 840 seats (with 320 seats in Screen 1 and 520 seats in Screen 2).

The Plaza closed in 1993 and was demolished that same year to make way for a Meijer, while the original Plaza marquee was recycled by the Meijer’s gas bar.

Saw movies at the Plaza when we would visit my Grandparents who lived just a few miles from that Meijer. Specifically remember seeing Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Return of the Jedi there. Just a plain, 70’s/80’s style shopping center movie theater.

Also, it had two screens.

Address was 3955 S. US-31. The Plaza opened on September 19, 1975 and closed in 1993. The adjacent Meijer store demolished the building in 1993 for expansion. The marquee was apparently recycled by the Meijer store’s gas bar.
