The Lyric was opened very early in the year, as the event was noted in the January 14, 1922 issue of Exhibitors Herald.

Opened as the Lyric Theatre in 1922. It was renamed the Roxy Theatre in 1943. The Theatre closed in 1956 and has since been demolished. According to the Historic Theatres of Illinois it was located in the 100 block of W. Main Street.

This was our favorite theater. We would drive from Thompsonville on Monday night, since they always started their best films on Sunday, and there were few people there on Monday. For a family, it was great. Saw “An American in Paris,” there, and remember young men (high school age) making fun of Gene Kelly in his tight pants in the great ballet number.
