Located in Webster, a town to the south of Worcester.The Coster Theatre was opened by 1926 with 934 seats. By 1931 it had been renamed Liberty Theatre. It was operated at one time by E.M. Loew’s Theatres. It was still open in 1952, but had closed by 1955.

The MGM Theatre Photograph and Report form for the Liberty in Webster MA has an exterior photo dated May 1941. The theatre entrance was in the middle of a brick commercial building at least 2 stories high. The attraction posted on the small old-fashioned marquee is “That Night in Rio”. The Report state that the Liberty has been a MGM customer for over 10 years; that it’s over 15 years old, in Good condition, and has 980 seats. The Liberty, along with the State nearby, are listed in the 1942-43 Motion Picture Almanac as being part of the E.M. Loew circuit. There are 3 movie venues listed under Webster MA in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook: the Coster, the Steinburg, and the St. Jean. Was one of these renamed the Liberty ?

Oct. 9, 1929—The Liberty Theatre in Webster, a silent movie venue for several years, was wired for “talkies.”
For the life of me, I can’t remember what this theatre became after it closed. (I’m not in MA anymore), but I do remember the front of the building still resembling a theatre, and this was back in the late 1990s.

Ken mc’s photo is very similar to the photo on the MGM Theatre Report. Note that the caption for ken mc’s photo states that the Liberty was originally named the Coster Theatre.
In the Google Streetview photo above, the entrance to the Liberty was under the arch. There was a marquee above the doors and in front of the arch. What’s there today behind the entrance?
