Crossroads 12 Theatre

Crossroads I & II opened on July 16, 1971 as a twin with 1,000 seats (540 & 460). The opening movies were “Wild Rovers” & “Summer of ‘42”. Converted to a fourplex in the late-1970’s, then a seven plex during the early-1980’s. On August 17, 1990 it became a ten screen and was operated by Excellence Theatres at the time. Later in the 1990’s it was rebuilt and became part of the CEC Theatres with twelve screens including an Ultra Screen. In 2014 it is operated by Marcus Theatres.

It has the distinction of being one of the few mall theaters that is not attached to the mall! I remember many a hot summers and cold winters trudging across the parking lot to JC Penny to wait for my mother to pick me up.

This opened as a twin on July 16th, 1971. Expansions: four cinemas on August 23rd, 1979, seven screens on July 31st, 1987, 10 cinemas in 1990 and 12 screens in 1999.

The August 9, 1971, issue of Boxoffice reported that the Crossroads Cinema I and II in Waterloo had recently been opened by St. Cloud, Minnesota-based chain Cinema Entertainment Corp.. The original house seated 540 in Cinema I and 460 in Cinema II. Cinema Entertainment then operated 14 theaters in Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota.

In the Fall of 2018, replaced all seating with DreamLounger reclining seats in all auditoriums. The Ultrascreen auditorium features heated seats.
