The Star cinema opened on 27th October 2005. It is located in a newly built two storey building in the centre of Tonga’s capitol, Nuku'alofa. It was built for and is owned by Robina Nakao, a former radio D.J. who also owns a shopping complex in the city.
The Star Cinema had 200 seats in each of its air-conditioned screens, with 15 seats in each screen being VIP seats. Films shown were East Indian and firrst-run.
Unfortunately, the Star Cinema had a very short life as it was destroyed in the Nuku'alofa riots on 16th November 2006.
