It was a typical-looking six-plex of the 1980’s. The Bama Six Cinemas opened on June 24, 1983. In the front foyer were video game areas on either side, with a doorman’s stand at the entryway to the main lobby. The concession stand divided the lobby, with three, pretty much equally-sized auditoriums on either side. All auditoriums were stereo with large screens for both flat and Super35 projection. They also had curtains in front of the screen before showtime. It was almost identical to the Bama 6 in Tuscaloosa, which was in the corner of a shopping center on McFarland Boulevard.

A stand-alone structure, located in the Center Point Plaza Shopping Center on Center Point Parkway. Closed in 1998, the structure was razed in the early-2000’s.

I lived across the street from Bama 6 for about 8 years and saw many movies there and few of them ever made it all the way through without stopping for a few minutes. The flat seating and frequent break-downs frustrated many movie goers in the area.

This theatre actually opened at Thanksgiving, 1982, or maybe a couple of weeks afterwards. I helped with the booth training as it was being installed and fixtured. At the time I was the Assistant Manager at the Bama Six in Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa had opened earlier that year, June 1982.

Oh wait, I’m sorry… I was referring to the Riverchase 6 that opened Thanksgiving 1982… the Bama Six at Centerpoint Rd was 1983. I had already transferred back to Nashville when that was opening up.

I was involved in the installation of the projection & sound equipment. If I recall they had “Century” projectors with “ORC” automation systems.
