Opened in 1972, this small town theatre is quaint and comfortable. It was been owned by the same owners since 1998. The owners Ralph and Helen Kommer and Kathy and Bill Courtney turned over the ownership to Harry and Tammy Parks on June 29, 2006. The West Wayne Theatre is located in a strip shopping center along with an Ames department store.
This theatre is done in orange and black and has been a staple to the neighborhood for many years. It was closed in April 2010 and reopened October 15, 2010 under new operators Kristin & Richard Anderson. Renamed the Canaltown Cinema, renovations and redecorating has been done, and the opening movie was Bruce Willis in “Red”. It had closed by December 2018.

This is an absolutely great theatre. So historic. It was so very close to closing. Glad it’s still in business.
My 9 year old son and I went to a movie at this theater last weekend and had a wonderful time! Great prices, fresh popcorn and a nice crowd. It reminded me of going to the movies when I was a kid. I would much rather go here than some ginormous 15 screen mega-plex with tiny screens. Also, this theater does show 1st run movies.
I live in Rochester but I’ve been to this theatre couple of times, like many commented this is an awsome theatre, there pricing is good, very neat, DTS sound, Friendly.
I tried to rent this theatre to screen Indian movies,(www.jmaxvision.com) since they are first run theatre the time slots were not available.
But I really appreciate the people there. Bill courtney and his family. I talked to Harry couple of times through the phone.
They are all very good.
Very calm and pleasant atmosphere.
Thanks

The cinema is closing after Thursday’s 7pm show. Hopefully it can be reopened soon by an interested party.
The Theatre has been returned to the former oweners, Ralph & Helen Kommer, who operated it from 1987 to 2006 with their daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter.(The Courtneys) It is their hope that they can find someone to reopen it. Call 315-597-4382 or e-mail .com
The December 11, 1972, issue of Boxoffice said that the West Wayne Cinema was scheduled to open on December 27, 1972. It was one of the first theaters in a proposed circuit of hundreds of theaters that were to have been franchised by United General Theatres, a Los Angeles-based corporation that suffered the same quick demise as the other franchise outfits of the period such as Jerry Lewis Cinemas.
Despite having established quite a few theaters in its first three years of operation, United General collapsed amid charges of fraud and conspiracy, and in 1975 two of its executives, both of them also major stockholders, were fined and sentenced to prison terms.
Many of the UGT operations were 16mm houses, but the West Wayne Cinema was equipped with 35mm equipment. A 16mm UGT house was set to open at Niagara Falls the same day the Macedon house was to be opened.
The theater in Niagara Falls opened as a 16mm house but later was converted to 35 mm. It eventually became an adult cinema and closed in 2003. Today it is used as a retail store
This theater will be reopening on October 15, 2010 as the Canaltown Cinema: http://www.rbj.net/article.asp?aID=185302
