I like the original grand opening ad touted “Luxurious Chair Seats”. CUTTING EDGE!

The Riverdale Cinema 3 was never a Cinemark house. Gordon Theaters opened the Riverdale in 1965, Martin Theatres took over in 1969 and subsequently twinned the theater. Martin was rebranded Carmike Cinemas in 1985; the Riverdale Twin was run by Carmike from 1985 until about 1987, when Neighborhood Theatres took over. Neighborhood turned the Riverdale into a three-screen cinema in 1991 and eventually sold out to Regal Cinemas, who closed the Riverdale Cinema 3.

I was involved in adding “DOLBY” CP-50 sound upgrades in the early 80’s, also adding projection and sound eguipment for new additions when theatre was purchased by Neiborhood Theatres.

The recent opening of the Riverdale Theatre was announced in Boxoffice of August 9, 1965. A single-screen house of 610 seats, it was designed by architect Drew Eberson for the regional circuit Gordon Enterprises, operated by brothers Julian, Jerome, and Leonard Gordon.

Pretty sure I saw Escape of the Planet of the Apes here.

Not a big Spielberg fan, I do remember seeing long lines here waiting to see Jaws.
