XIT Drive-In Theater...Littlefield Texas

The XIT Drive-In opened in August 1952. It was still open in 1970. In 1988 the only part remaining was its sign in a fenced cow pasture.

Around 300 feet South of CR310 on Hwy 385 was a drive in. Older images on GE provides a clearer view. Was located East of the Hwy.

Any ideas what XIT stands for? An acronym for Exit?

After a little digging, I found out that XIT was the name of an enormous ranch near the town.

XIT stands for “Ten In Texas” – that’s how large the XIT ranch was! JBH

Billboard, Sept. 13, 1952: “Bill Chester has announced the opening of the XIT Drive-In at Littlefield, Tex. The theater bears the name of a well-known cattle brand in that area.”

A closer address is US-385 & Co Rd 310, Littlefield, TX.

The property sat just to the south of the intersection on the east side of US-385. Today, it is private property, but you can still make out the remnants of the ramps in the back.
