The Star Theatre had a perfectly square, champaigne colour stucco facade that was dominated by an indented, oversized, yellow five point star. Red neon block letters spelled out “Star” atop a v-shaped, neon outlined marquee.

The lobby was small, but stylish.

Auditorium side-walls and ceiling were stepped with inlet lighting effects, and also carried a champaigne and yellow colour scheme. Two small dressing rooms flanked a shallow, gold curtianed stage.

I’ve been told that the Star Theatre opened around 1925 and closed in the mid-1950’s. It was then used for storage. The theatre was demolished in 1984 following damage due to a tornado.

The Star Theater was actually on the West side of S Hughes St, between Ozark and Young.

Symco, this old movie house sounds fascinating. Do you have snapshots to post?

Seymour, …just saw your Dec. 7 post on Jan. 6, 2007…sorry to be so long responding. I didn’t know the Star had a thread until tonight, ‘til I read your post on the Inca thread, which has kind of turned into a bulletin board. And an interesting one.

I don’t believe I have any photos of the Star.

Regarding other Okmulgee County theatres, the little towns of Beggs, Dewar, and Kusa had theatres. Do you have any information on any of them?

Sorry to report that I have nothing on small towns of Okmulgee County. Perhaps the Beryl Ford Collection will eventually post something on this subject.
Would imagine these were like most other Oklahoma tank towns. After the turn of the century saloons added a silver screen and projector, and began showing magic lantern flickers.
