This opened on December 21st, 1990. Grand opening ad posted.
The updated information and new pictures are appreciated.
As of March 2018 the theater is still closed. Lindsay Honda explored options for reopening the theater but my current understanding is that rehabbing the theater is prohibitively expensive. That said, screens and seats are still in place, just none of the equipment from kitchen, projection, etc.
Lindsay Honda will be using the mall as a showroom. The current plan is to keep the movie theatre in place for possible future use.
In 2007 Cineplex Entertainment bought out Cinema City and closed down this one keeping the ones in Edmonton and Winnipeg.
Is this still closed? If so, the status needs updating.
Not surprised the mall shut down. They didn’t have shops so much as “small storage lockers that people could rent to sell whatever they felt like.” You couldn’t walk down any row of “shops” in this mall without finding one place that was selling bootleg DVDs of current run movies or pirated CDs.
It’s a shame, really, because I’d like to see the area come to life again, but traffic congestion and poor layout simply makes it a terrible place to run a business. They would have to demolish loads of buidlings and completely rebuild and reroute the roads.
Cinema City is now closed. The owners of the mall ran into trouble and closed the entire site sometime around September 14th, 2012, meaning that all of the tenants were closed down.

Made a visit yesterday to see the new updates. Looked the same on the outside and lobby. I talked to a guy behind the counter who said they fixed the seats, got the lights working and have digital projection in a couple rooms.
Keith’s post on 12/5 lists the new web address.
When I go to the website that is listed here (CinemaCity8.com) I get a “Directory listing is denied” error. The WHOIS information for that domain doesn’t say anything about Cover Your Assets II.
Checking out their whois information, the site was registered by Cover Your Assets II, LLC. There are some YouTube videos under that name. A check of the Ohio Secretary of State business records shows that business owned by a gentleman who lives in Reynoldsburg, which is near the theatre.
Looks like someone put a lot of money into the place.
Could you post a link to whatever page you found that on? Thanks.
From facebook “Some of us remember Cinema City from days gone by. NO MORE dollar movies. FIRST RUN movies will be shown in the beautifully renovated theater, complete with all the latest digital, 3-D equipment and lots more surprises. An UPSCALE movie theater with HUGE-LY DISCOUNTED ticket prices. I said, "Huge-ly discounted prices.” With the renovation still in progress, Keep checking back for updates — we expect a grand opening very soon."
Guessing it means digital and they got rid of the bad 35mm projectors. New website CinemaCityMovies.com
what does it mean for a movie (as opposed to a TV show) to be in HD?
now showing first run movies. website says in hd.
I took kids to this theater today. I was given the tickets for free admission. Even free it wasn’t worth it. The bathrooms are nasty and dont look like theyve been cleaned in years. 2 guys ran the whole place. One told me there was popcorn. There was, but it was old. Opted to not get it. The candy was old and stale. Soda was limited to 3 out of 6 kinds. The movie was 10 minutes late starting as the guy running the concession stands had to also start the movie. The theater we were in had no heat and was falling apart. Outside temp was in the 20’s so the theater of course was freezing. The movie was blurry and hard to see. My husband and I used to take the kids to this place regularly several years ago. We will not be returning.
Presumably so that you spend 2 hours shopping in the flea market before you go to a movie.
They offer 4 free admissions with a coupon when the “Marketplace” is open, but you have to get tickets 2 hours before showtime!

ron is right they are only using 6 screens right now. i would visit cinemark movies 12 for your second run needs.
ron i saw toy story 3. the print was almost unwatchable. also people from the next show came in early. worst movie experience i’ve had.
That’s not encouraging. I was thinking of taking my nephew here to see Toy Story 3 when I’m in Columbus next week (hard to beat $1.50 admission), but maybe that’s not such a good idea.
