The Universal City Twin was built in 1973, opening on August 22, 1973. It’s original owner was legedary showman Tommy Reynolds. Within a year he sold it to McLendon Theatres of Dallas, and within a year they sold it to H.O.G. Theatres.
It was a very nicely appointed theatre, but never really caught on, because of it’s proximity to Randolph AFB, and most people living in that area were military and could see movies on base a lot less expensively.
It was eventually taken over by Santikos Theatres, then Movie One Theatres of San Antonio. iIt became an adult movie theatre from July 29, 1977 and closed in 1979. It has been used as a church for many years.
