The Star Theatre was opened in 1921 and was owned by Bailey Theatres. It was an African-American theatre. By 1950 it was operated by the Blumenthal Circuit. It wasa destroyed by fire during race riots in the early-1960’s.

Open from 1921 operating as a ‘Negro theatre.
I remember as a little girl, going to The Star Theater on Sunday after church going to see JAMES BROWN in concert on the Big Screen. We paid for our admissions with coke cola bottle tops…Wow, those were the days! !!
This might be a new location, but according to Savannah records (http://www.city-data.com/chatham-county-ga-properties/E/E-Broad-Street-10.html) a Star Theatre is still extant at 718 E Broad St, albeit no longer a theatre.
The Star was on MLK, Jr. (formally West Broad St) and was torched during civil rights riots in the early 60’s.
