The Colquitt Theatre was opened in 1937. It was operated by E.J. Hunter who closed it on January 24, 1949 after he took over the State Theatre, which was renamed Colquitt Theatre. This first Colquitt Theatre later became the Hunter Theatre.
Following renovations, by 2021 it had reopened as the Colquitt State Theatre, in use as a banquet hall and special events.

According to the Chamber of Commerce (Oct 2007) it is the Colquitt Theatre. There is a plaque on the building that says it is the Hunter Building, but not theatre. They, of course, could be wrong. The theatre was recently gutted in preparation for a facade restoration.
These updated Theatres must all be in the SOUTH GEORGIA area. GENE THEATRE.CARVER THEATRE.
The original name was “Colquitt” and later changed to “Hunter” owned by E. J. Hunter. Seating capacity was 300. I toured the building severa years ago and found that a new metal roof had been placed on the building. All of the abestos material had been removed from the walls and booth. I understand that the facade has been rebuilt with a marquee on it.
