I believe the Roxy was actually opened in the late 30’s. It does not have a balcony, but was twinned by splitting the auditotium in half. It is still open, and I believe is run by the owners of the Missouri 6 in Clinton. It is probably one of the oldest active movie theaters in the state.
I believe the original theater DID have a balcony. It was always “off limits” when we would see movies there as kids; I don’t know if it was just closed or in poor repair. But I agree that the twin was made by splitting the auditorium in half.
This theatre goes back to 1931 when it was known as the Majestic Theatre. It became the Roxy Theatre in 1936.
