Opened in 1911 as the Liscard Electric Palace in Seaview Road, Wallasey, proved to be one of the area’s finest and most popular venues for film entertainment.
The cinema continued to draw crowds right into the 1950’s when it given as new modern facade. As with most UK cinemas, it eventually fell victim to the falling number of cinema-goers.
The Liscard Palace Cinema eventually closed in June of 1959. The building later became a supermarket (Lennons) and then a shoe shop (Shoemarket), which remains to this date.
The Liscard Palace Cinema was a short walk along Seaview Road from the Capitol, Wallasey’s ABC cinema.

No – it’s the former Apollo 6 (formerly Gaumont Palace theatre), also in Wallasey. It’s now a block of flats.
So sad…..
No!, Looking at other photos in the set and comparing them to interior photographs in the book ‘The Silver Screens of Wirrel’ by Clive Garner, it is the former Capitol Cinema/ABC Wallasey. The former Gaumont Palace/Apollo 6 never had a balcony, it was a stadium plan cinema.
The Gaumont Palace (Egremont) was built so low because of ancient “Rights to Light”.
Photo of Liscard Palace.
The front was rebuilt just after WW2:

Ken, Ken, You are wrong, it IS the Liscard Electric Palace, built c 1911, and re-fronted in very early 1950’s, as the original frontage would have appeared so very old-fashioned by then (loads of ornate fibrous plasterwork etc ) Go to a fabulous site : historyofwallasey.co.uk There you will find ORIGINAL frontage and interior, plus excellent info on all the Wallasey cinemas. The Capitol stood at what is effectively the epicentre of Wallasey, and the shops surrounding it still stand. Terry Dixon.
Ken, I meant epicentre of LISCARD, Wallasey.
Added 3 pics of original 1915 advertising posters showing the original frontage.
