Restored and reopened as live theatre on 19 May 2015.
Check out my writeup + photos of the interior of the theatre.

No signs of any activity here on a recent visit, still closed as are associated business premises.
Here’s a picture of the cinema’s hall. I came across it via an open door today while at that area and took a photo of it. Was surprised that it’s still largely intact despite being dis-used for such a long time.

What’s the address?
It has 100% been done up since the above pictures were submitted.
I’ve just arrived in Singapore and have just noticed that the Capitol has been given a new lick of paint. From my hotel room 38 floors above the theatre it even looks like it has a renovated roof!
Anyone have any news?
I will make some enquiries while I/m here.

I have a postcard of this nice theatre. Playing is “RUSSIA’S CIRCUS ARENA”, and on the top marquee it says “Welcome Michael Todd” and “Welcome Elizabeth Taylor”. I found the following bit online:
“Meanwhile Singapore’s old Capitol Theatre is to be renovated and reopened as a modern performing arts venue. The plan, by the Singapore Tourism Board, is to convert the former entertainment icon – at the junction of Stamford and North Bridge roads – into a stage for local and international musicals and plays. It will seat audiences of up to 1800. A budget of S$3.5 million has been set aside for the redevelopment.”
Its the only theatre left in Singapore with a historical backdrop. its beautiful. the interior is great (at least in Singapore context). We must preserve it. till today, its still standing there with future unknown. the last time i read about its fate was that, some developer wanted to convert it to a performing theatre.
