The St. Marys Theater/Grand Opera House opened in November 1895.
Considered to be one of the finest old theaters that still exists in the United States, the theater was still used for movies and live stage acts until around 2015. It has had the best of entertainers pass through the doors, such as John Phillip Sousa, Gene Autry, Jimmy Durante, Fanny Rice, and many others in the world of entertainment.

The 1941 Film Daily Yearbook has this listed as the New Broad Theater with a seating capacity of 500. Two years later in the 1943 edition of F.D.Y. it is the St. Marys Theater, still with 500 seats. The 1950 edition of F.D.Y. lists the St. Marys Theater with a seating capacity of 613.
The Grand Opera House in St. Mary’s, OH was listed in the 1897-98 edition of the Julius Cahn Official Theatrical Guide. J.L. Smith was the Mgr., and the seating capacity was 1,000. The house had both gas and electric illumination. The proscenium was 30 feet wide and the stage was 35 feet deep. The theatre was on the ground floor and there were 9 in the house orchestra. In addition to 2 weekly newspapers, there was the daily “Democrat”. Hotels were the Fountain and the Dieker House. The 1897 population of St. Mary’s was 6,500.
