My two big memories from this theatre are seeing Ridley Scott’s LEGEND for the first time (which started my life-long obsession with that film), and seeing THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK when the lights came up during the climax of the film and we were evacuated from the theatre because the projection room was on fire. Thankfully, it was not my first time seeing that movie, otherwise I would have been heartbroken.
This venue became Edwards Westminster Twin in 1990 and ceased operations on June 4, 1998 with “Godzilla” on both screens. That film was moved inside to the four-plex the next day.
Moviebuff82 – It was called “A & B” instead of 1 and 2 because theatres 1 and 2 (along with 3 and 4) were located inside Westminster Mall (that separate fourplex is listed above under “Nearby” Theatres).
Why was it called theaters A and B instead of I and II?
Saw a ton of films here. Empire Strikes Back a bunch of times. The Shining, Bear Island, GhostBusters. I think the first film I saw here was shortly after it opened was a double feature of Bambi and The Apple Dumpling Gang. Great times here.
This was a cool theater back in the day. Saw ET and Jedi there. Jedi was 70mm. The building now houses a BABY’S R US. You can see it from the 405.
Gone and Forgotten jugding by the posts. All ways sad to see a theatre like that.
Status should be closed/demolished, as noted on ¼/06.
UA also had a Twin A & B outside the Cerritos Mall with a smaller 4 plex in the mall. Same as Westminster. They are All closed also.

The address of this theatre was 530 Westminster Mall.
I think I went to this theatre only once. It was bigger and nicer than the crummy little place inside the mall. I saw some sort of crappy family movie about a kid’s dad who dies and his soul ends up in a toy robot the kid builds. I had very poor taste in movies at this time, as you can clearly see.
One of the last things I remember about this place is that they showed “Showgirls” on both screens at once, probably to combat the problems of kids paying to get into a G rated flick and sneaking into the other screen for some low-grade smut. The place sat empty for years until the offensivly massive Babies-R-Us was built in it’s place. Why does a store that sells nothing but baby clothes and accesories need to be several cubic miles in size?
Oh, and by the way, this should be listed as closed/demolished, as the theatre was completely torn down and its structure was not used for the above monstrosity.
