Boxoffice, Dec. 10, 1955: “HOBBS, N. M. – The Flamingo, new twin-screen drive-in on the Denver City highway, has been opened here with a 1,200-car capacity. George Fossell is manager of the theatre for All-States Theatres.”

Boxoffice, Dec. 13, 1976: “HOBBS, N.M. – Did you ever run a race with the devil? Stout-hearted patrons at the Flamingo Twin Drive-in here had the chance recently and those who won received two tickets to see "Race With the Devil.” Ricky Littlejohn, well-known for the many promotions and campaigns he has produced in Hobbs, had a bright-red flannel “devil’s suit” made, complete with hood and a long tail. A pitchfork made the outfit complete. As it turned out, there weren’t many winners. It seems Commonwealth Theatres' Littlejohn was a track star at Lovington High School and still keeps in shape via many sports activities."

From the Feb. 22, 1960 BoxOffice: “A terrific wind and sandstorm Tuesday (9) damaged several Video circuit drive-ins. … at Hobbs, N. M. … the tower at the Flamingo there was badly twisted”

Why the name flamingo? I don’t think the bird is native to New Mexico, unlike Florida(i think?)?

I would truly love a picture of the Flamingo Drive-IN.My father managed this theatre in the early 60’s. My mother ran the sanck bar and I was projectionist. We showed spanish films on the far screen on Sunday’s. We also presented the areas professional fireworks display for the 4th of July. Our family home was between the theatre and a cemetary.

The Flamingo was located at about 2800 North Dal Paso at what is now the location of the Dal Paso Shopping Center. It had two screens, with a snack bar and projectionist room located in a building midway between the two facing screens. It had a great neon sign.
