Worked there when it was a KB house in 76-77; by far the strangest theatre I ever worked. Dark, a little claustrophobic and giving directions to it was a nightmare. Popcorn dispenser machines along the wall and the concession stand served only very limited items and carried only grape and orange-ade. Theatre itself was a good size and comfortable though. Always thought it was KB’s idea of what an upscale art house should be.
obviously this reporter forgot about this prior location being a movie theater, but on the plus side looks like the ‘live’ Synetic theater' will have a new ‘movie’ theater neighbor.

now it’s used for Arena stage. plays and musicals.
The Crystal City opened on 1/14/70 with BARARELLA.
This modern theatre was extremely popular when new, but it lacked any architectural distinction. It was managed by KB Theaters, the best managed local movie chain Washington DC ever had. The theatre is actively used today as a conference center auditorium and classes are held there frequently.
