The Palace Theatre was opened as a negro theatre on May 20, 1920. It was remodelled in 1934 and renamed Harlem Theatre.
The Harlem Theatre was still operating in 1955. Any further information on this theatre would be appreciated.

Listed in Film Daily Yearbook:1941 thru 1955 editions as being a Negro theatre. Seating initially given for 600, later reduced to 500.
Here are two photos of The Harlem Theater in Dallas during the 30’s. It showed exclusively black films. It was located on Elm street, a black neighborhood and shopping area referred to as Deep Ellum. The location of the theatre is now a parking lot.

The film playing starred Ralph Cooper. He was a popular star of black fillms during the 30’s and 40’s and was often referred to as “The Dark Clark Gable”.

The Palace Theatre opened as an African American theater on May 20, 1920 at 2407 Elm with the film, “The Girl from the Outside.” On March 22, 1934, the remodeled and updated theater was renamed the Harlem Theater where it operated for more than 20 years. The theater was bulldozed as part of the Central Expressway project.
