One of the many cinemas in downtown Cairo theatre district, it is located on a corner site. Opened in February 1948 by the British owned Rank Organisation. It was designed by a British architect Leonard Allen, it had a British manager and a British made Compton 4Manual/10Rank theatre organ was installed (the last organ to be manufactured by the Compton company). It was opened by organist Gerald Shaw, and was the only known theatre pipe organ to be installed in the Middle East. The Rivoli Cinema showcased British films and seated 2,150.
On 26th January 1952, the Rivoli Cinema was badly damaged by anti-British riots and the Rank Organisation withdrew their control of the building.
The Rivoli Cinema was later sub-divided into a twin screen and in 2008 is listed as a 5-screen cinema. Today many of the films are shown in their English language version.

Unfortunatly no picture of the original auditorium which I would love to see.
