The information I found on the Georgia Theater comes from the Statesboro library. The Georgia Theater was built on East Main Street in 1936 by Hal Macon, Sr. as a motion picture theater. The Art Deco style building was designed by Savannah architect, Cletus W. Bergen and featured air conditioning, and a coffee shop in the lobby. The Georgia Theater closed in the 1970’s.
Since September 2004, it has operated as part of the Averitt Center for the Arts for the Emma Kelly theatre group.
