Located in the Liberty 2 Shopping Centre, Romford, Essex. Opened on 18th July 1990, this Odeon Romford was a replacement for the older 1936 vintage Havana Cinema/Odeon located in South Street that became two nightclubs and closed in February 2024(It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
Seating was provided in the eight screens for: 410, 255, 150, 181, 181, 150, 335, and 253. The Odeon was closed on 12th April 2001 due to increased competition from newer multiplex cinemas in the area.
The building lay empty and unused for over 10-years. It was taken over by independent Premiere Cinemas chain and refurbished in 2012, opening in August 2012 as the Premiere Cinemas. The shopping centre has been re-named Mercury Mall.
The Premiere Cinemas was suddenly closed on 20th August 2024 following a long-standing dispute with the landlord. One of the last films to play was “Alien Romulus”.
New operators took over and following an ongoing refurbishment it will reopen on 13th March 2025 as the Lumiere Romford.

There are now plans to re-open by the Romford Film Trust as the Lumiere. The plan is based on patrons buying membership and then having low cost access for films. This is intended to discourage anti social behaviour which was reported as an issue under the Premiere management.
