The Absecon Drive-In was located on E. Absecon Boulevard, a few miles east of S. Shore Road. It opened on June 11, 1955 with Robert Wagner in “White Feather” & John Payne in “Hell’s Island”. It was operated by Walter Reade Theatres. It had a capacity for 1,000 cars with room for expansion for another 250. There was a golf course next door, along with a Howard Johnson’s restaurant. I went to theatre in my pyjamas as a child.
In later years, my friends and I would sit on the railroad tracks behind the theatre and watch Russ Myer movies like “The Attack of the Supervixens”. Later operated by Frank Theatres. It was closed on September 5, 1983.

The Home Depot is NOT on the site of the Absecon Drive-In! The home improvement center is next to the drive-in, on the site of the old golf course. And the Absecon Drive-In never had three screens. The screen structure that was erected in 1970 still stands, or at least it did until October, 2012 when Hurricane (SuperStorm) Sandy hit. Not much else remained.

According to the Google Street Map taken in October, 2015, the screen still stands. Also, a 2013 aerial photo shows the screen standing as well. So perhaps Hurricane Sandy didn’t blow it down.
The screen still stands but has some damage in the center, probably from Sandy.
