The Cines Alexandra is one of central Barcelona’s historic older cinemas. It opened on 26th March 1949 Clifton Webb in “Ninera Moderna”(“Sitting Pretty”) and had an original seating capacity of 1,085 seats located in orchestra and balcony levels. There are beautiful, spacious foyers with elaborate designs on the terrazzo floors.
In 1979 it was tripled with the main auditorium in the former orchestra level now seating 744 and two mini cinemas seating 123 and 136 seats formed out of the balcony. These opened on 8th February 1980 with “El Super” and “Apocalypse Now”. It had closed by June 2018 and converted into a Mango clothing store.
The adjacent Cine Alexis (1954) was Screen 4 of the complex and has also closed for retail use.
