Open since at least 1925 when a Moller organ (opus 4346) was installed. By 1941 it was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. The Hawthorne Theatre is still listed as open in the 1951 Film Daily Yearbook.

396-398 Hawthorne is now Pathways Academy school and Newark Boys & Girls Club. From the side of the building, it appears to be the former theater.
