News About This Theater
The South Cove Stadium 12 Theatres opened on May 18, 2005. It was a twelve screen theatre operated by Frank Theatres. It was the first family movie theatre in Bayonne since the closing of the Lyceum Theatre and the DeWitt Theatre in the 1970’s. It was closed in 2018 with the winding up of Frank Theatres chain. In December 2020 it was announced the theatre would be converted into retail space and day-care center.

I worked here as a projectionist a few years back, being the intown theater it took off at first and is still a power house locally. I dont attend this theater anymore but i’ve got to say the GM is a great guy and works hard to keep that place alive. It is hard to work for companies who only care about the management of the theater. I think the quality of theaters like the south cove would benefit more if the owners instead of hiring alot of expendable people constantly, would just pay a few good employees a decent wage. Theater #3 the biggest house is equiped with Dolby Cp650 and a 5000w lamphouse. All the houses are equipped with big sky platters and Ernemann projector heads and DTS6AD in all theaters except #3. With stadium seating this seems like a great place to see a movie too bad they dont have a digital projector, or even digital preshows.
Oh I forgot to mention…this is a 10 screen theater the building says cinema 12, the strip mall sign says cinema 14, and this description says 12 as well. On the upstairs level of the building by the projection booth there is a large space that would be cut into 2 very small theaters probably 80 seats or less. They also put in the pipes in for a men/womens room on the upstairs level which is currently blocked off to the public. They have been wanting to develope the upstairs for years but right now this theater is only running with 10 screens all connected in a single hallway on the downstairs level.
This theater was evacuated on Sunday, July 12, 2012 when a portion of the facade came loose: View article and pictures.

Uploaded an October 2017 streetview image. The place was falling apart by this time. It must have been built cheaply.
