As mentioned back in 2019, the title should be changed. The Fandango listing (the only place their tickets are sold online) has it as “Big Cinema Movie City”, not “8K Cinemas-Movie City”.

Please update it Big Cinema Movie City 8, 8k Cinemas doesn’t own it anymore. It not on their website.
Now called 8K Cinemas – Movie City.
Theatre open as Movie City 6 and Clearview didn’t owned it when it open.
Opened on different screens with “Born on the fourth of july”, “Stella”, “War of the Roses”, “Back to the future”. “Enemies: a love story”, “Mad house”, “Blood of heroes”, and “Little mermaid”.
reopening as a Bollywood cinema
Found on Newspapers.com
This opened on February 23rd, 1990. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
I grew up in nearby Iselin and was so excited when this opened as it was going to be the biggest movie theater closest to my house. I ended up seeing many, many movies here.
I remember going to see “Jurassic Park” here in 1993 and, for some reason or another, the movie wouldn’t play. They sent out this poor, young employee to tell a PACKED crowd that they could get their money pack or get credit or whatever. I felt SO bad for him.
I remember the cute receptionist at my job at the time talked me and my friend into going to see “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” here in 1995. We didn’t appreciate it so much at the time, but what an experience and memory it was.
Glad to see it still up and running.
Theater is still open, changed to private ownership in December
It is not listed on the theater’s website
This theatre now for several weeks has not had any listings of showtimes in the Friday Star Ledger. Is it still open?
movie534, I absolutely love what I did, but I was pushed to where you could not think. It was like flying an airplane in a spiral dive. That is crazy. Well, I have read your messages, so you know exactly what I am talking about.
And the poor public had to put up with this money-saving. No professional showmanship and I say GOODBYE!!!
movie534, it was a mess! We had a list of problems for each and every theater. Anything from bulbs, bulb blowers, lamphouse vein switchs, relays, LEDs out of alignment, dust within sound pots, lack of oil, gears, it went on and on. Each house had 5 to 10 problems.
NCS was taken over by Strong. I had to quit a couple months ago. It was one job when all theaters were union. But, with almost all theaters run by kids, it was a joke. I had to hang it up and say, Bye-Bye! And most management thought it was great to just keep calling in the service guy.
There were three of us to handle all theaters, ALL THEATERS, in New Jersey and New York. I would return two or three times a day to some theaters. I worked six am until midnight and finally said, Adios.
Can you blame me?
Hey Meredith, a quick question. My fellow union brother worked here up till March 2004. He spent like 3 years working with the tech’s from NCS getting everything in working order when clearview kicked us to the curb. Just how bad was the booth? I remember it running smooth when he left.
Yes it is Fred. We did a lot to get the booth up-to-shape. Good place and good people working there.
I think this theater Is being booked by phoenix theaters with its parnership with Adlabs. This is their website http://www.phoenixtheatres.com/
website – appears to be affiliated with Parsippany Cinema 12:

The above heading should be updated. It now goes under the name of Movie City 8 and is now independently owned. Clearview gave this up over 3 years ago. Also, the main fare now is mostly Indian Movies.
The theater was recently purchased by an independent owner who plans on updating the interior slightly and running 2 screens of Bollywood films with six screens of popular release films.
Originally opened as Movie City 6, then two screens added later. Clearview bought this and the Woodbridge Cinema 5 (now closed) from Howard Grant, who owns MegaMovies nearby. Expect to see this theatre close in the near future.
