Local history sources say that George Cowan built this theater sometime after the founding of the city in 1910, with the Placentia Hotel occupying the second floor. According to an October 24, 1921 article in the Santa Ana Register, the theatre had a separate section for migrant farm workers from Mexico and another section for the locals. It seems that some Hispanics were ejected from the theater and a short time later a notice appeared on the front of the building threatening to torch it. The sheriff said he was investigating the incident.
The theatre was closed for a while in the early 1940s but by the 1950s the times had changed as a vintage photograph from that era shows Spanish-language films on the marquee.
The 300-seat theater, and hotel, burned down on November 19, 1956 and was never rebuilt.
