My dad would take us from Staten Island to the Newark drive-in in the 70s, we’d pick up some Cuban sandwiches and enjoy whatever was being shown. Saw Enter the Dragon, starring Bruce Lee on the big screen, great times. Would love to see drive-ins come back.

This opened on June 8th, 1955 as the world’s largest and most magnificent drive-in theatre with the world’s largest cinemascope screen and the world’s largest dining pavilion according to the grand opening ad that I posted in the photo section for this drive-in.

It appears that the Newark Drive-In closed for the final time on January 26, 1985. Redstone was the last operator.

This is a landmark site for me, it’s where I first saw “Star Wars”…I was 4, and that was that!!
