Built on the site of the Empire Theatre, the Kine Centre opened in September 1974. The Kine Centre had three screens for first run films. It was very successful until it was remodelled into a ten-screen multiplex in 1988. Its fortunes then began to dwindle and since closing in 2004 it has been “moth-balled” with a very uncertain future.
