Originally opened on 4th July 1930 with 1,600 seats, the Regent Theatre was built for the J.C. Williamson chain. Later operated by the Kerridge-Odeon chain, it was the main picture palace of the Palmerston North area for much of its life, until its closing in August 1990.
It was refurbished in 1998 as a Performing Arts Centre.

This cinema closed in august 1990 and is now a live theatre
This theatre is used regulary for Ballet and Symphony concerts because I think it is the only remaining (vintage picture palace)theatre in the Palmerston North area.
The Regent is still equipped to show movies – Recently screening Holiday Inn http://www.regent.co.nz/notice_board.php
