Park Theatre

The Park Theatre was located in Tacoma’s McKinley Hill neighborhood. It opened by April 1917. A Wicks-built Robert Morton theatre pipe organ was installed in 1923.

I can find no record of its closing date.

It was still listed as operating in the Film Daily Yearbook, 1950 edition.

In 1953, the organ was moved to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tacoma. In 1956 it was removed from the church, but it’s current disposition is unknown.

I think this building still exists. If you look up the address in Google Maps and go to the “street view”, there is a building with similar dimensions, placement, and trim around the top. However the facade has been heavily modified. I don’t know what the building’s present function is.

Drove past the building used to be the Park Theatre yesterday, it seems to be a bingo hall among other things. I believe it operates under the name of “Parkway Hall” or something similar.

My parent’s, Joe and Treva Plan managed the theatre in the early 1960’s. I’m looking for a photo of the theatre entrance.
