Became a 4-plex on June 17th, 1981. No ad found.
The current auditorium seating capacities as of August 2017 are: Theater 1 – 125; Theater 2 – 63; Theater 3 – 42; Theater 4 – 41; Theater 5 (upstairs) – 29; Theater 6 (upstairs) – 27.

The wait is nearly over! After almost two years of development and construction, the all new Laemmle Monica Film Center opens this Friday, January 29th!
Online ticketing and showtimes will be available Thursday afternoon. The films opening Friday are THE 2016 OSCAR-NOMINATED SHORT DOCS, ANOMALISA, THE LADY IN THE VAN, MUSTANG, and THEEB!

It appears that they will miss the Holiday Season and will open in early January. As of today that is.
This place has been advertised as reopening in “late 2014 or early 2015” but I walked past it today and it is totally gutted inside, with the roof opened in spots. I don’t see this opening much before late spring or summer. Wonder what the holdup is?

Another screen that was ruined by chopping it into smaller not very good theatres. I grew up seeing films here when it was the Monica 1 & 2 theatres. Laemmle ran both Art and Hollywood films here with great success.

I am here for a holiday matinee. The theater is very clean and well-maintained.
An article about the Monica I & II was published in Boxoffice of September 21, 1970. There were four interior photos. The Monica I originally seated 737, and the Monica II seated 471. The architect for the project was Stanley Borbals.

I believe the Laemmle family that operates this theatre chain were cousins to the Carl Laemmle family, with no direct ties or financial interest in Universal Studios.
I thought it was named after the family that owned the chain?
I believe that is a correct assumption.
May one assume that Laemmle ,the name, was chosen to honor Carl Laemmle the founder of Universal Studios?

Yes, When the theatre opened it was known as the Monica Twin. When I lived in the city we called it the Monicas.
I recall that this theatre’s official name was “Monica Twin” before it was further multiplexed.

The current auditorium seating capacities are 152, 217, 235, 470.
The Monica 4 Theatres is one block north of the former Pussycat theatre.
This use to be a few doors down from the old Pussycat Theatre (now a Buca di Beppo).
